Marriage License / Marriage Record (1817-1983) Index volumes from 1817 to 1942 are in alphabetical order only by the first letter of the last name and the first letter of the first name, so the entire grouping for that letter may have to be searched. Index volumes from 1943 to 1983 are in normal alphabetical order. Indexes for volumes C1 to C20 are included in the index volumes for the years 1863 - 1884. Volume and page information obtained for marriages prior to 1932 (up to volume 390) can be used in the Marriage Record search below. Indexes for volumes A1 to A29, B1 to B30, C20, and 22 to 139 may list the license number as the page number, and the numbers may not be the same if there are two licenses per page. Volume and page information for marriages from 1931 - 1983 (volumes 391 to 818 and volumes 1 to 33) exists only on microfilm reels and microfiche. Documents for marriage licenses from 1984 through 1999 exist only on microfilm reels and microfiche. You must contact the Probate Court (513) 946-3551 to view or obtain copies of these documents. Index information for marriage licenses from 1984 through the present, and documents for marriage licenses from 2000 to the present are available on the Marriage License Search section of this Web site.
Use page number 0 (zero) to retrieve the index for each individual volume. Volumes with an 'A' prefix volume number contain documents that have been recreated due to fire and water damage. Some volumes may be incomplete. Volumes with a 'B' prefix volume number contain documents that have been recreated due to fire and water damage. Some volumes may be incomplete. Volumes with a 'C' prefix volume number contain court entries to show proof of marriage where the original record was destroyed by fire or water damage. Non-lettered volumes start with 22. Volume numbers skip until volume 91. The skipped volumes are not missing. The volumes were originally numbered in this manner.
Marriage Banns are records of marriages that were solemnized at a church with the notice of marriage having been first published on two different days of public worship. Marriage Banns after 1953 are not recognized by the State of Ohio. These volumes have no master index. Use page number 0 (zero) to retrieve the index for each individual volume.
